Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy and expensive. You probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. Interesting features and attractive.

Not recommending 11/23/2019

Have only had this model for about a month but have used the steamer, convection, regular microwave and popcorn and grill. All those except the convection worked reasonably well. I felt that the convection was slow but I have to use it more to really know how well it works. My BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT is the ventilation system. I purposely looked for a good hood fan and I am very disappointed in this one. First of all, it barely has any power even at its highest speed. With pots on the front burners the front of the microwave get all steamed up and drip. With pots on the back burner it is somewhat better but the tile backsplash still got "drippy" with moisture running down the tile. This replaced a Kenmore Elite which had a wonderful and powerful venting system. Then, as has been mentioned so many times before, it is ridiculous to have to stand there and press "off" six times to stop the fan. It just doesn't make sense. I cook a lot and really don't like lingering cooking odors in the house. This was an expensive machine and I am sorry that I will have to be using it for the next several years. If I could have returned it, I would. Kitchen Aid has had a very favorable reputation in general with its products so it is too bad to have to write a disappointing report. Below you are asking if I would recommend this product. No, not if the purchaser was looking for an over the range microwave with good ventilation power.

Can not find a COMPLETE USER MANUAL ONLINE

Pat Rice 10/27/2019

I feel you are hiding something when you only provide access to an 8 page Use and Care Manual and most of that is safety warnings. Or is the only programming pushing one button on the front of the screen and you can't change settings within that option, from your manual that is what appears to be the case.

Works great

Memaw1 8/29/2019

Microwave was received as a replacement for a Kenmore Elite that blew the magnetron for second time. It works better than expected and has a little more power than the old one. Its very quiet. Would like to have access to change the sounds and the sound volume that notifies when the food has been cooked. Its taking a little longer trying to get use to the much larger door as our old microwave had a stationary panel on right side which allowed the door to be smaller. I'm short and trying to get out of the way of the much larger door when opening, closing, it sometimes knocks my glasses off. So far we only used it for cooking quick items, reheating food, frozen vegetables and popcorn. Will be trying out the convection and browning capabilities in next week or so.

Disappointment does not cover our experience!

jerry305 8/8/2019

Don't buy this if you need a hood fan option !!!!!!! The hood does not adequately vent. The cabinets and microwave face get covered with steam and condensation from the smallest of pots cooking beneath. It will not be long before our new cabinets are destroyed from the moisture. i contact service techs out to our home to check the unit. All say that it seems to be a design flaw. I have spent hours contacting kitchen aid, Don't buy this if you need a hood fan option . my previous old model work better. stay away on this product .

Crisp/sizzle pan great for refrigerated breaded chicken cutlets, burgers, brownies, frozen pizza, breakfast sausage, and frozen fries (did not like it for eggs though). Talk grill rack great for burgers, wings, and kabobs (veggies, chicken, shrimp or steak). None of this stuff has any indication of being microwaved!

Quality features but durability is trash

Dentalpro 7/5/2019

I purchased this microwave in February of this year (2019), had it installed in June and the microwave part stopped working after using it for a month. This is the same experience with the two previous KitchenAid microwave - they quit working too often. I purchased an extended service contract through Home Depot but they tell me that it does not include replacing my unit even though it brand new. I now have to go through trying to get the thing repaired and re-installed, what a hassle. With the last oven it took them over three weeks to come out to even look at it just to tell me it can't be repaired. I feel like a sucker for buying KitchenAid again.

Nice microwave but the service is substandard

greginburlington 6/5/2019

I bought the earlier version of this microwave (YKMHC319ES-4) last July and was very happy with it. Then the handle came loose. No problem, things happen. I called in a warranty request on April 2. It's now June 5. The technician has been here 4 times, once to diagnose, and then three times to attempt repairs. The first time Whirlpool shipped a door, it was broken on arrival at the repair depot. The next time, it was the wrong color (black stainless instead of plain). The next time the tech put the door on but it didn't work (no activity on the control panel). Same thing with today. New door, dead on arrival. Whirlpool refuses to just replace the microwave and has now told the tech to replace the main board, leaving me waiting for at least another week It's been 8 weeks now that I don't have a microwave and Whirlpool doesn't seem able to fix the problem. When I talk to Whirlpool service they keep saying "this time it will be fixed". In fairness, they did extend the warranty by an extra year. But so far, warranty isn't doing me much good. So, nice microwave but I can't recommend buying anything Kitchenaid or Whirlpool.

Way too expensive for just a great look

Muna Luna 4/13/2019

We just remodeled kitchen and wanted powerful exhaust. Hood would be better option for power, but we were glad that we found this microwave and thought it will save us space without sacrificing performance. It does look very good above the stove. This is a plus point. First disappointment was when I realized it does not have removable and "dishwasher save " grease filters. Filters are semi-removable, I need to lay on the stove and with screwdriver find little screws to unscrew them, wash them and screw back. First time I did it - heavy filter fell on my new expensive glass stove-top. I am so glad it didn't brake it. Why there was no simple clip as most microwaves and hoods have? Second disappointment is that surface inside is not made of stainless steel, it's not smooth as expected, looks like painted or powdered. For this price they could give us better material. I still like it. It does the job.

Quiet, and it does the job.

Dave 15 3/21/2019

We bought this to replace a 10-year-old microwave that was starting to fall apart. It was delivered uninstalled, but was an easy afternoon project to get it installed in place. It has proved to be a quiet, full featured, kitchen addition. Although we have not used all of the features, it heats rapidly and evenly, and it is much quieter in the kitchen that our previous microwave. Although other reviewer's have noted that the fan is weak, it has done the job for us, and it is much quieter than the fan on our previous microwave. In addition, the timer alarm is noticeably louder which makes it more effective when we are in another room.

I am happy with the actual heating and microwave performance. But the exhaust fan needs improved. When I use by front burners (99% of the time) it won't even suck of steam from any of my cooking and condences all over the front of the microwave

Disappointed

purpleicious 3/21/2019

I was very excited to have a micro that does everything but answer the front door to let our guests in! The convection worked, but nothing else. It just got fixed.....had to wait over 2 weeks for parts to come in, and then to get on the schedule of repair company. I haven't tried it yet....final repair just done. I love the sleek look, and stainless interior and all the cooking paraphernalia that came with it. I look forward to trying it out and hopefully can rate again after some use.

Versatile, does what it is supposed to but........

LarryinCMH 2/13/2019

This was purchased to replace an older KitchenAid unit that was also an over-the-stove combination microwave and vent hood. This unit, however, offers considerably more versatility with the convection and grilling and other features. I have used some of those so far in the two weeks since purchase but am far from versed on all the myriad of features. So far it has done all we have asked of it and the cooking process is quite easy. The prompts walk you through key functions and so the need for the included quick feature guide has been minimal (the guide does come pre-laminated though for longevity). Now to the but.......: You have to remember when purchasing this that it is not a full blown hood, it is a exhaust inside a microwave. For that reason, while the exhaust is powerful enough to exhaust most cooking odors there are limitations (by the way, mine is set up to top vent with the distance from the top of the unit to the outside wall penetration about three feet). The vent intake openings are at the bottom rear of the microwave, so, the venting is far more efficient for exhausting from the rear burners than on the front burners because the openings are directly above the rear burners on the cooktop or stove. On all settings the vent fan will suck a tissue against the openings, but, will not draw a tissue out of the air for instance or suck it off the cook top from below. It's not that powerful. There are others on this site that have complained about the perceived weakness of the exhaust and I can duplicate of course their various videos showing steam rising in the front of the unit. See my comments above however, said steam does not rise at all other than into the exhaust vents if it's on the back burners and does not rise in front if cooking moderately on the front burners. In a future design it would be nice if KitchenAid would expand the vent openings more toward the front of the unit as well as the rear (make the vent openings a U-shape around the light for instance), that might make draft better at the front edge, but, in looking at others designs online and in the stores other manufacturers don't do this either. So, the cooking is great, the venting is OK under all circumstances but much better at the rear than the front and there are physics reasons for this. I'm not dissatisfied at all with the unit however and would recommend it to anyone as long as they fully understand they are buying an all-in-one combo unit, not a dedicated vent hood.

Heavy duty but hard to see buttons

GoldenRule 2/3/2019

Bought this recently and find it high quality and heavy duty but a major concern is that the display does not light up and even with some lighting in the kitchen cannot be seen unless a very bright overhead light is on. For the price this is a major disappointment.

I have moved since installing this microwave and have no where in the new kitchen to install anything but a countertop model. I can't find any microwaves with all of these feature and the wonderful touch keyboard which is the ultimate 'cooking for dummies'. really miss it. But it is large, and the door is large.

Unbiased Review: Setting the Record Straight...

RJGX 12/1/2018

Disclaimer: I am not associated to KitchenAid, nor a compensated voice in any way. I am a private consumer. I am hoping to explain and dispel some of the complaints about the venting capabilities of this unit by other reviewers. The plain truth is that a little bit of prior research would have helped these consumers a great deal. This unit specs are widely available. The vent CFM spec is 400 cfm. Most microwave competitors offer the same spec, and a very few offer 600 cfm. A little bit of conversation with a professional, or personal digging would have revealed that even with the best installation (conduit external venting) 400 cfm is only barely adequate for everyday cooking with over the range installation (OTR). This with all filters cleaned on a regular basis. Judging from the review video, the consumer has chosen to install his unit without external venting and OTR which is the worst choice! The venting and charcoal filter will barely handle smoke, particulates, and odors at 400 cfm. However, the venting is completely inadequate to handle extreme condensation, more because of science than inadequate specs. If your kitchen is cold, and you introduce hot moist air, you will have condensation everywhere almost immediately. Science fact. Witness what happens in your shower. This is not the fault of this unit. I suggest that any consumer faced with this problem should at least attempt to warm up the air in their kitchen beforehand to alleviate some of this problem, but it will still happen. No internal venting solution will eliminate this completely. Even 1000 cfm would not do the job. To give this unit a 1 star review because of this is wildly unfair. Overall, my experience with this microwave has been excellent. Yes, there are some valid complaints; the controls are somewhat complicated and not bright enough for some, there needs to be more helpful how-to videos for people who find the manual too difficult to follow, etc. But you can do things with this unit that easily takes the place of a full-size convection oven, toaster, air-fryer and more! I did my research before I bought this unit, and concluded that a separately installed OTR professional (1,200 cfm) externally vented exhaust, with the microwave installed under the cabinet to the left, was the best possible solution for all my needs (see photo). I highly recommend purchasing this microwave, especially for amateur chefs who occasionally smoke up the place with high-heat cooking! ;-)

Venting almost not there!

Trollmother 11/10/2018

I have been using my new microwave for a few months and find it cooks well and looks great. Unfortunately my main reason for choosing it was the venting system which offers a number of settings and was sold as industry standard. In fact it is totally ineffectual. No matter how little is being cooked on the hob below the steam is not drawn into the unit. It was professionally installed so no problem with me doing something wrong. The unit in use gets covered in condensation which then drips onto the hob. It requires wiping several times during the normal cooking process. It is seriously poor. I expected better from a unit at this price! Cannot recommend it, in fact I'd say, avoid this product.

so perfect

Moshita 11/8/2018

As part of a set my husband bought for us, this is an amazing microwave and oven, just you can get rid of your counter top oven, having the option right on top of your range, and easy to use. works amazing. very satisfied with the product

Would not buy!

paulak495 10/6/2018

This microwave was in a model home when I purchased it. I would not have selected it. I don't like the controls on the bottom at all. I think the controls on the right side of the microwave are much more user friendly. The door is too wide and you practically have to duck when opening it. It has a much wider door swing. My builder had originally installed this microwave to recirculate and it is ridiculously loud. It sounds like a freight train is coming through my house. My husband vented it outside so it sounds about half as loud. The recirculate is intolerable. I don't know how they expect anyone to use it that way. The biggest problem I have with the microwave is I have been trying for months to order the charcoal filters for this microwave and every time I order them and at 3 different places including KA they are wrong and don't fit. KA has no response to this. They are not the right size and I have wasted too much money on them. I guess I will just throw away the microwave after it seizes from getting clogged with grease.

Great Appliance

Marla3 9/28/2018

I've had this about 2 months now and have used quite a few of the features. It's a great appliance - leftovers reheat evenly, used the convection feature to bake a small coffee cake (9x9 pan), and I love the crisp/brown feature. The only feature I don't care for is the light levels and fan levels - you have to go through all the levels to turn them off. Then if you accidentally press it too many times you have to start over.

A Fabulous Microwave

J.R. 77 9/18/2018

I've had it for almost a month and am loving it. It's a breeze to use with virtually no learning curve necessary. My only issue, and it's a small one, is that the control panel isn't illuminated. It is indeed a great microwave.

Disapointment does not cover our experience!

Disappointed home chef 9/14/2018

The hood does not adequately vent. The cabinets and microwave face get covered with steam and condensation from the smallest of pots cooking beneath. It will not be long before our new cabinets are destroyed from the moisture. We have had numerous service techs out to our home to check the unit. All say that it seems to be a design flaw. I have spent hours contacting kitchen aid, all to no avail. My wife is in tears after saving for a new kitchen that she can't cook in.

Really big microwave!

Cghad 8/17/2018

We've had this for 4 weeks now. We haven't used all the features yet but the ones we have used have been great. Convention oven, oh yea!! Only flaw is the packaging. When the plastic comes off the black inside edge it appears to pull off little bits of the black plastic. Poor packaging.

Best microwave/exhaust fan we've owned in 50 year!

12spencer49 8/14/2018

American Home Shield offered it to us to replace our failed top of the line Electrolux over oven / exhaust fan. We like it better than any of them!

Handsome Microwave With All the Bells and Whistles

The Brown Hound 7/7/2018

I got this unit about a month ago - mid-June '18. I've put it through its paces fairly well in this time: Baked muffins in the convection - not perfectly even heat, but very good (muffins in the back browned more than muffins in the front - should have used turn-table). Warmed burger buns in convection - quick/easy/perfect Grilled fish fillets from frozen - First time grilled two tilapia that were about 3/4" thick - came out juicy and perfect 18 minutes out of the freezer. Second time cod that was more than an inch thick and it didn't work so well. If your fish is thick, you'll want to thaw first. Will take some more trial and error but it's a pretty slick feature. Fried bacon in the crisper pan - came out kind-of tough - definitely prefer pan fried bacon. Warmed lots of stuff in the microwave - it's very powerful and very quiet. I'm a fan. If KitchenAid made a cookbook or an instructional video, I would like to see it/them. There are a lot of features on this unit that I'd like to know more about. One point of confusion is the turn-table says "for microwave oven only". I think that means not to use it in other ovens. I think you can use it for roast, bake, microwave and grill functions - not microwave only, but I'm not positive. It looks good, the controls are well positioned and intuitive. It's a good machine over-all.

Sturdy, large and good finishing

amit 7/2/2018

Sturdy, large and good finishing, matches well with other products. Fan is really noisy at hi speed. While opening I feel it may hit my face. While cleaning with wipes the keys always get activated. The metallic handle since it is above the range, stays hot for long

Love at First Sight!

Soccermom82 6/12/2018

They say good things are worth waiting for and trust me this microwave is a dream come true! It is not only good looking, but it does a great job with a no-brainer selection panel which helps determine exact cook time after selecting the item you preparing. Have not tried the crisper or broil, but I am sure I will be just as pleased when using that mode. All my food comes out exactly as suggested preparation panels of most food items. Oh! no more wasting butter - it will soften, melt whatever your recipe call for! My new KitchenAid kitchen is a month old and I am in love with all of my four new SS appliances -especially my dual fuel gourmet range and this micro makes for a great marriage of new appliances.

Awesome Microwave

mrich777 6/3/2018

I bought this to match my other three new Kitchen Aid appliances for a remodel. I had all of the features we needed including a recirculating vent fan, convection and roasting. While I've yet to use all of the features, I think we are going to really enjoy this. The roasting and convection is a perfect second oven for my tween children to cook up a snack after school without having to use the gas range. I am hopeful that we will get many years of use out of it. The pricing is premium, but unless you go with an Advantium, you aren't going to find more useful cooking features in an over the range microwave that also vents. The only change I would make is that the under unit lighting should be LED, but that may be because I agreed to take the floor model at my local appliance store for a discount. Hopefully they've remedied that since mine was manufactured a couple years ago.

Quality appliance!

sco in Mich 5/31/2018

This is a great microwave. I was going to get a double oven but didn't have the room for one. My husband and I opted for this microwave which also has a convection oven. It is a solid, high quality appliance, and easy to use. We love it!
