Ice maker is a disaster

We purchased this unit for a new house in August of 2010. We just can not use the ice maker. It is constantly one big frozen block of ice. Somehow, air is getting in and causing the ice to melt. It's been a disaster from day one -- we've had it repaired at least 5 times. Parts replaced, etc. The repairman has let me know that we are not his only customer with this problem, and the next option is to replace the freezer door to the tune of $1200 or so.

One of the worst appliances I've ever owned

We moved into a new home in March of 2008. I selected KitchenAid appliances due to the price point versus other higher-end brands. Shortly after the 2 year warranty expired we started having problems with the refrigerator. The ice dispenser door does not shut properly causing the ice in the bin to melt and water is constantly running down the front of the freezer door. Once the door decides to shut, the ice in the bin re-freezes into a solid chunk, and of course, it won't dispense any ice. The latest problem has to do with the motherboard, I'm told. Of course, it went on the blink just before Thanksgiving 2015. The worst part about this is that KitchenAid does not make or stock a replacement part. A technician must remove the existing motherboard and send it off to who knows where to have it rebuilt. I am told the process takes up to 2 weeks. What do I do without a fridge for 2 weeks? The other "fun" part of the whole experience is that the fridge has an alarm, which has been going off, beeping and whining since the board went out. I guess that's a feature... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK. I also own a KitchenAid wine cooler, and the LEDs indicating the temperature are burned out. I also own a KitchenAid microwave, and have had multiple issues with it, and the LEDs are only half lit on it's clock as well. I also own a KitchenAid dishwasher, and the detergent dispenser stopped working almost immediately. Lastly the cooktop has been a disappointment as well. The grill over the burners cracked! How is that possible? Overall I've had a horrible experience with KitchenAid, and I'll never spend another nickel on any of their products.

Side by side Architect Series II purchase

Like the refrigerator overall. We replaced our ten year old KitchenAid side by side. Disappointed in the slow water flow from the dispenser. Tech says sorry, that's just the way it is.We purchased a 7 year warranty and are contacted repeatedly to buy an extended warranty. Seems to little contact between departments. Your new designs are terrific and considering the cost, we might have been better off waiting to make such an expensive purchase.

We purchased this model about a month ago to replace a same sized 15+ year old KitchenAid and the newer model is much improved: better use of interior space and well designed features. It took a few minutes to realize the water line needs to be bled at start-up per the instructions, but once that was done, everything has worked well.

The refrigerator part is fine, but the freezer is a disaster!! The ice holder is in the door and must thaw just a bit every time the door is opened, because within a week, the ice is a frozen into a block. The dispenser motor is not strong enough to move the ice, so it stops. The ice keeper is removable, but it freezes in place also, so you have to hit it to break up the ice holding it in place then struggle heroically to lift it off. This is a horribly frustrating design flaw that HAS to be redesigned. I have a friend with this same fridge, and she has the same problem with the ice.

So my previous kenmore pro lasted a whopping 3 years and after 6 service calls was deemed unrepairable. So this was my ONLY option as a replacement. Was a bit unsure but it is an amazing beautiful piece. Great space, the water dispenses so quickly. So far so good.

I purchased KSSC48QVS to replace KSSC48 two weekss ago. It looks very nice. However, I noticed problems listed below. 1. Freezer and fridge doors are not leveled. When freezer door is being closed, it makes a metallic squeaky sound. 2. Water dispenser pump makes a big noise when water fills the tray. It drips a drop of water and leaves a water at the bottom of nozzle after use.

It looks beautiful but the refrigerator door falls open hard when you take something out (with both hands) and leave the door. I'm afraid the hard shake will cause some problems down the road.

I am incredibly impressed with the quality of this refrigerator as well it's beauty. Opening the doors immediately expresses the quality of the unit and the fit and finish of the interior is unmatched by its competitors. And even more surprising is the quickness at which the ice maker generates cubes!!! A great value!

Purchased 5 months ago during kitchen reno. Originally we didn't want the ice maker and water dispenser, but now I'm glad we got them. The fridge has lots of space - particularly the fruit, vegetable and dairy drawers, which was important for us.

This is a superior product and we are extremely happy with it. Unfortunately the TASCO installation department didn't install it correctly. 6 months and numerous service calls between TASCO & Toronto Appliance still didn't resolve. It finally took a call to Whirlpool who sent out a competent service person who corrected the installation.

We bought this very beautiful very large and very expensive refrigerator about 6 years ago. We have had to replace the ice maker and the thermostat. Now the ice maker is broken again and I have been told by the Kitchen Aid suggested repair company that it is an unfixable electrical problem. Clearly not having an ice make it a fancy built in refrigerator with ice in the door is unacceptable. I am now buying bags of ice and filling up the dispenser. There should not be problems like this in an appliance of this price point and quality.

Been using this now for about 2 months, love the space and easy access to all the shelves and drawers. Very quiet and nice illumination inside, even through it is not LED lighting. One somewhat major complaint is that some of the ice freezes together in the bucket and causes large blocks that I have to remove periodically. The ice dispenser typically works fine, but the large blocks sometimes keep new ice from being made. I was concerned about this from other reviews, but I wanted the extra freezer space by having the ice bucket in the door so it is something I begrudgingly will live with. I hear the ice buckets that are in the shelf space generally do not have this issue, but they have a lot less shelf space in my opinion. The water dispenser shows how many ounces of water is dispensed, which I thought was a gimmick, but I really like this for when I make my shakes that use a certain amount of water, now I do not have to use a measuring cup.

We installed in Sept 2012 and this unit really compliments our kitchen. Very solid, never a problem with ice-maker or anything. My wife talked me into this and having a small family we didn't really need the space but it's great for parties with all the space. Very happy with our purchase.

I bought this 13 years ago, and it was touted as "top of the line". Came in last week to water all over floor from the freezer defrosting. I lost all the meat in my freezer. Just had a repairman out, and will cost $1800 to repair. That is half the cost of what I paid for it. Apparently this is happening frequently to the Kitchen Aid side by side refrigerator/freezers.

We bought this without the ice maker on the door because I like a clean front. It's the best fridge I've ever had. Best value compared to sub zero, etc. Counter depth makes it easy to find food and not crowd it. Beautiful. We just sold our house and plan to build a new house using all of the same Kitchen aid appliances as before. DW, fridge, microwave and the new 48" dual fuel stove - my gift to myself!

We've only had it installed for a couple of months. We had a Sub Zero before and it seems this holds more than it did and the contents are far easier to access. The interior lighting is more than sufficient. The drawers are spacious and well organized. If I had any complaint or negative comment, the door shelves seem just slightly shallower than our Sub Zero making milk cartons, large wine bottles and other larger objects harder to get in or out. We live with it, but, only 1/4" more would have been better. The outside stainless steel finish is spectacular. Installation was smooth once it was in the house. Since it so heavy, it was an exercise to get it from the driveway to the kitchen. Ice maker is a little too loud when first filling up; can be heard throughout the house at night.

We "settled" on this fridge in 2004 when we built our house because we didn't want to pay for a subzero. But we ended up choosing an absolutely perfect refrigerator! In the 10 years we have had it, we have had not one problem with it. Our other high end appliances have all been repaired several times. We are moving and building again and wish we could take it with us. We hope our next one works just as well. Would recommend it to anyone.

The inside plastic frame of our refrigerator developed a vertical crack after only 10 months. The upper light on the refrigerator side is poorly designed as it interferes with the use of the top shelf. The temperature settings do not hold the settings. The ice bucket in the freezer must be emptied periodically for the door dispenser to function properly, which is an inconvenience. The vacuum seal on the unit is not nearly as strong as our previous unit. I would not recommend this product!

The refrigerator did what I wanted - it was big. The money spent for the ice dispenser was completely wasted. It jams every couple of days and you have to empty the ice bin and clear the chute - a pain the butt job. It's not worth the effort to keep it running. My advice - the refrigerator is OK but the ice dispenser simply doesn't work well enough to justify any cost, much less what they charge.
